It was a very cold and wet weekend, luckily for us this weekend’s activities were held indoors. We held two courses on using agricultural chemicals at Wandong Hall.
These courses were subsidised through the Partnership Against Pest program funded by the Victorian Government through Agriculture Victoria. The courses were delivered by ChemCert
The Agricultural User Chemical Permit course on Saturday focused on Weed Control and covered:
- Safe transport and storage
- Understanding chemical application issues
- Knowledge to limit spray drift
- Risk assessments and hazard control forms
- Integrated pest management
- Determining weather conditions suitable for spraying
- Equipment calibration techniques
- Managing chemical residues
- Self-audit and compliance checklists
- Record keeping requirements
The course on Sunday covered baits for animal pests such as rabbits and foxes:
- Benefits of integrated pest management
- Government legislation and requirements and occupational health and safety requirements
- Monitoring of pest animal infestations
- Types of 1080 and PAPP pest animal bait products
- 1080 and PAPP risk assessment
- Plan and schedule a 1080 and PAPP pest animal baiting programs and understand bait laying techniques
- Requirements for the purchase, transport, use and storage of 1080 and PAPP pest animal bait products
- Post-baiting requirements and record keeping requirements.
We were very pleased to see the courses so well attended and hope to see the results through reduced weed outbreaks and rabbits in the area. Thanks to Agriculture Victoria, Chemcert, Open House for the catering and our members who attended and set up the Hall.
Our next event is very different and is focused on engaging kids in Citizen Science with our Waterwatch Field Day. Tickets are limited so grab them here https://events.humanitix.com/waterwatch-day
